The myth of the local IT guy, or why “someone who will fix it” is no longer enough today

“I know someone who will fix it.” “A friend’s kid knows computers.” Those are the kinds of lines all of us who have been working in IT and IT support for companies for some time have heard. For a long time, the belief held that having someone who “knows about computers” was enough for business to run smoothly.

Back then

Twenty-two years ago, I was one of those “kids” myself. When someone’s Windows crashed, when the printer no longer wanted to print, or when the modem kept beeping but there was no internet connection, I was the one who had to “fix something.” I quickly became the local “fixer” people called for every computer issue, from missing cables to data recovery.

Hard to believe now, but at the time that was sufficient to a point. The internet was only just gaining traction, the cloud was mostly early experiments and initial services, with no mass adoption yet. Cyber threats were less sophisticated and rarer, and issues were comparatively quite simple. Most of them you solved with some patience, a bit of Google searching, and a screwdriver at hand.

From those beginnings Humanfrog emerged, initially as Zabec.net, founded in the summer of 2003. Those were times when IT was more of a “craft,” and solutions fairly simple.

But that time has irrevocably passed. Today IT is a different reality—more complex, faster, and vastly more demanding. What a single “kid” could handle back then now requires a coordinated team of experts.

Times have changed

If IT used to be mainly support for basic computer work, today it is the backbone of every company. Without digital solutions, we simply can no longer operate.

Systems are connected, data is in the cloud, customers expect continuous availability, and the competition never sleeps—responsiveness is therefore critical. Cyber threats have become diverse and sophisticated, from phishing to ransomware that can paralyze a company in minutes.

In such an environment, “one person for everything” is no longer enough. The range of requirements is too broad, the pace of change too fast, and the risks too great. You need a team of specialists covering infrastructure, cloud services, hosting, application development, automation, and cybersecurity.

How we approach projects and support

At Humanfrog, we have learned that success depends not on the individual but on the team. We break each project into phases covered by experts with specialized skills—from planning and infrastructure, through development and solution rollout, to ongoing support and monitoring of systems to keep them stable and disruption-free.

Our team operates as a coordinated ecosystem of experts. In support, we operate on a principle of continuous presence, which ensures immediate responsiveness when issues arise. The world never stops, and your digital solutions must run continuously as well.

This is how we ensure expertise, alignment, and a high level of responsiveness, while also anticipating future challenges. We enable companies to focus on their core business, without worrying about IT.

Digital solutions that drive business growth

Today, technology is not just a tool but a strategic partner to the company. At Humanfrog, we create solutions that support day-to-day operations while enabling growth, adaptation to change, and gaining competitive advantage.

Working with our experts means end-to-end support—from business process optimization, automation, and application development to secure system integration, cloud services, and managed hosting. Each solution is tailored to the company’s needs and flexible enough to evolve alongside its business.

Our goal is not only to resolve current issues, but to proactively identify future challenges and opportunities.

The myth of the local IT guy is obsolete

Modern IT is no longer a single person—the fixer of computer troubles who, with Google, a screwdriver, and patience, solves your problems. IT is the complex, strategic backbone of the company, where security, availability, scalability, and proactive 24/7 support are critical. One person has not been enough for a long time.

Success is delivered by a coordinated team of experts covering infrastructure, cloud services, hosting, application development, automation, and cybersecurity, enabling companies to focus on their business while we ensure the stability, efficiency, and uninterrupted operation of your digital environment.

In many small and medium-sized businesses, the IT environment evolves organically, without a clear plan and long-term strategy. The key issue is often a lack of understanding and the wrong choice of technology relative to the business model and user expectations.
