Digital transformation of one of the largest regional business and shopping systems


BTC is one of the largest regional business and shopping systems, with its central hub BTC City Ljubljana, a junction of shopping, business opportunities, recreation, entertainment and culture, recording more than 21 million visits per year. We developed a multi-phase strategy for the renewal of the websites and unified the company’s digital identity. We redesigned the most visited websites, BTC City and Vodno mesto Atlantis, designed the BTC City Shop online store, and introduced the integrated Moj BTC City system with a user base for secure and personalized service management. We also developed the BTC Prop and Logistics Center Zalog websites. We provided users with a unified, modern and secure user experience across all digital touchpoints.

Challenge

Fragmentation and lack of integration across systems 

BTC faced a fragmentation of technologies and server environments, which made management more difficult, slowed down work, increased the risk of errors and worsened the user experience.  


Our solutions

From fragmented systems to a unified digital experience 

With a multi-phase renewal of the digital environment, we created a unified architecture that connects the key parts of BTC into a recognizable, modern and technically aligned whole. We harmonized the visual identity and content structure and improved user journeys. The result is a secure, transparent and device-friendly digital experience that enables visitors to interact with BTC and with the BTC City hubs and Vodno mesto Atlantis easily, consistently and intuitively. The new solution gives internal teams simplified content management and a solid foundation for further digital development. 

Design system

In the process of planning and designing the family of websites, we created a modular design system based on BTC City’s corporate visual identity, which enables visual consistency when introducing new websites and functionalities. Part of this system is a custom-designed icon set that fits BTC City’s typographic identity.

A modern, secure and user-friendly website 

We developed a modern, powerful and secure BTC City website that brings together the presentations of three shopping centers in Ljubljana, Novo mesto and Murska Sobota, as well as a separate B2B section for business partners.

We paid special attention to the diverse and content-rich offering of more than 400 providers, each with its own subpage. The system allows them to manage their own content and, once finished, send it to the BTC City editorial team for approval. 

The website is adapted to different user profiles, ensuring accessibility and effectiveness in addressing both end users and business partners. 

Intuitive information search

The website enables users to easily and intuitively search for information and view current events, benefits and offers, while the search function and interactive map make it easier to find what they need, plan their visit and orient themselves, and reveal additional options for leisure activities, from recreation and culture to cuisine.

The B2B section provides an easy overview of available commercial real estate, event spaces and advertising opportunities. The website is adapted to different user profiles, ensuring accessibility and effectiveness in addressing both end users and business partners.

Fast online purchase, tickets always at hand 

We set up a modern online store where users can quickly and easily buy e-tickets for Vodno mesto Atlantis and BTC City and Vodno mesto Atlantis gift cards and e-gift cards. Users securely store their e-gift cards and e-tickets in Moj BTC City and in their mobile wallets, enabling a paperless, environmentally friendly and convenient experience that aligns with modern shopping habits. With the introduction of online purchasing, we reduced the workload for employees and, in the first year alone, achieved that almost a third of all purchases of BTC City and Vodno mesto Atlantis gift cards were made online.

A user with a Moj BTC City account has access to all their orders, e-products and archive; everything is in one place, accessible with a login that unlocks the entire BTC City digital experience.

BTC City platform - One account for all services

The biggest challenge was to develop a digital ecosystem that connects five different external systems in the background, while everything has to work for the user quickly, smoothly and without complications. For the BTC City Shop online store we integrated the gift card management systems, cash register and finance modules, the Bankart payment system, and the Apple and Google services for adding cards and e-tickets to mobile wallets. In addition, all products are automatically synchronized from external sources.

From web to interactive kiosks

The modular design of the BTC City platform enables connections not only between all the websites in the ecosystem, but also the straightforward creation of landing pages that can be displayed on all kinds of devices - in the case of POS prize games, even on public interactive displays.

Full control and security in a modern regional cloud

For each web application we set up a separate server environment within our own infrastructure. It operates in an advanced data center in Slovenia with ISO 27001 security standards. We manage servers in a high-availability environment, ensuring uninterrupted accessibility even in the event of failures. As the provider of one of the largest regional clouds, we have full control over the infrastructure, securely connect applications and enable reliable communication with external services.

This saves BTC costs, as there is no need for its own equipment, premises, cooling or maintenance. Capacity continuously adapts to the client’s needs, allowing them to grow without major upfront investments and ensuring financial flexibility without compromise. Hosting in the same region also provides better legal compliance and significantly lower latency when accessing services. 


Results

For one of the largest regional business systems, BTC, we designed and delivered a comprehensive digital transformation. With the redesign we removed the fragmentation of technologies, unified the digital identity and established a secure, modern and user-friendly experience across all touchpoints. We set up an online store for purchasing e-tickets and gift cards and e-gift cards, enabling an easy, fast and environmentally friendly purchase with the option to store items in digital wallets. The Moj BTC City user system connects all services into a single account, providing centralized access to orders, e-products and archives and seamless operation in the background, where five different external systems are synchronized. 

Each application runs in a separate server environment within our infrastructure, which is located in an advanced data center in Slovenia and complies with ISO 27001 security standards. High availability, full control and reliable connectivity with external services enable BTC to operate smoothly, save costs and grow flexibly without large upfront investments.
